Rec sports center water event December 29, 2013 Bldg# 167/169

On Sunday Morning December 29, 2013, nn FM employee, David Wall, 612-282-5271 noticed water coming out of the women's shower while doing a weekend building walk through.  The leak originated from a hot water pipe to a reheat coil above racquetball court #13.  Hot water and the air handling units for that part of the building were shut off until the leak could be repaired.  The hot water service and air handling units were returned to service after the repair was completed.

During the day FM employees extracted the water.  The truck was not used because the extreme cold temperatures made its use problematic.

DEHS was contacted at 3:12 by PSAC.  Neil Carlson, DEHS returned the call and contacted Dan Borash for 612-290-5222  for further details.

DEHS on the scene at approximately 4pm .  There was damage to some ceiling tiles and carpet in the women's locker room.  There was water damage to the floor and ceiling of racquetball court #13.  I told the Rec center staff to keep the racquetball court and the women's locker room closed through the am on Monday until DEHS gave permission to reoccupy.

At approximately 5:30 pm, Phil Archer, FM was contacted 612-387-5221 by DEHS and we discussed the cleanup.  Mavo was to arrive with fans and dehumidifiers in the early evening.

At 7:22 pm Mark Litchke, Mavo 612-327-1932 contacted Neil Carlson.  He was concerned that the floor in the racquetball court may need to be replaced as it has a cork floor below.  He was also concerned about needing to replace the ceiling.  I agreed to meet him at 9:30am on Monday December 30th at the rec center to evaluate the situation after the space had a chance to dry overnight.
