MCB water event from October 14 2020

On October 14, 2020 a water event above the ceiling in MCB Auditorium room number 3-120 caused extensive water damage to a section of ceiling on the north and east side of the auditorium.  There was insulation above at least part of the ceiling. The wet insulation will need to be removed.

2-116 Custodial Closet and 2-118 Women's bathroom both had water damaged sheetrock ceilings. Attempt to dry the ceiling out with fans.   DEHS will recheck on Monday 10/19/2020.

Notes from LeRoy Engele: Earlier today [10/14/2020] a failure occurred in a drain line above the projection room at MCB in the GP auditorium. looks like about 20' of pipe will need replacing along with ceiling tile/grid. A couple of investigative openings were cut in the hard ceiling to get a better look. I am told that repair will require lifts that will have to be rented. Custodial staff did an initial cleanup of the water with the evening crews looking at it periodically this evening.

We also experienced leakage to the second floor that created a fault in an initiating device on the fire system sending the building to full alarm with response from Minneapolis Fire and Rescue / UMP .

This started as a service call to the 1st floor for toilets backing up .

District Staff from multiple teams responded quickly to minimize the impact to this valuable asset. Thanks to Shannon and Dave R for their support.

At this point we are hoping to dry out the space above the ceiling.
