Mayo d210 water event bldg #74 3/18/2014

Approx. 0300 on 3/18/2014 a 1.5 inch domestic water pipe broke at the end cap
 in d210-6 Mayo.

BSAC 03:33 contacted Brain Flaherty and he coordinated the FM response.

03:45 UMPD paged DEM and DEHS.

Asbestos, plumbers, electrician, Fairview, elevator repair contacted.

The central west section of 2nd floor was water damaged including Fairview Labs.

A similar area on 1st floor was also impacted.  This includes Medical records and Fairview gift shop storage.

Spray on asbestos was spread throughout several labs adjacent to d210 Mayo.

U of MN: DEM, DEHS, FM, UM security, FM hazmat

Outside: Mavo, Clean Response, Fairview

Elevator 109 e and 108e are out of service .

U of Mn water response trucks were on site.

0700 areas affected by asbestos taped off.  U of MN security and Fairview security on site.

Dan Lockren now coordinating FM response.

0825 Fairview employees entered asbestos taped off area under direction of U of MN asbestos.  Fairview picked up materials allowing them to carry out operational continuity plan.

Water in these areas HEPA filtered before discharge.

Fairview labs will be out of service until Mon March 24, 2014.  The labs may open sooner depending on the pace of cleanup.  Asbestos cleanup will be done by Mavo systems 24/7.
